Last week, the research groups Ciudad Patrimonio Mundial and PREIT-tour from the University of Cuenca 🏛️ met to share the results of the project “Heritage, Leisure, and Tourism” and to showcase the progress of the project “Balancing Tourism and Heritage.”
The meeting presented key findings on the consensus and disputes surrounding the dynamics of heritage, leisure, and tourism in three key scenarios within the public spaces of Cuenca’s Historic Center. It also included an analysis of the situation of Airbnb in the city 🏠📊. Afterwards, a dialogue was opened on the need for indicators that would allow for sustainable tourism management, in balance with the conservation of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. 🌱✨
The event was attended by municipal council members and the Director of the Municipal Tourism Foundation of Cuenca 🙌, strengthening the exchange between academia and decision-makers.
In closing, participants shared important reflections 🤔 aimed at supporting those who draft local laws and regulations, so that they take into account the broad spectrum of actors and phenomena related to tourism, public space, and cultural heritage. 📜💡
