The PREIT-tour team is researching resilience and tourism in times of COVID-19. The main objective of the study is to explore the social dynamics of resilience in four rural communities that pursue their development through tourism in the face of the pandemic.
The participating communities (4) belong to the coast (Tsuer Entsa and 23 de Noviembre) and highlands (Sayausí and Migüir) of southern Ecuador. During these days, several semi-structured interviews were conducted with authorities, private and community actors concerning the objective of the study. Some interviews were conducted in person and others virtually.
Subsequently, an academic publication on this topic will be published. This publication will show the actions of the public sector focused on tourism and rurality in the scenario provoked by COVID-19, as well as the adaptation strategies of the private tourism sector concerning the communities of the study area in the COVID-19 scenario. Finally, the changes in the tourism configuration of the four study communities located in the Cajas Massif Biosphere Area in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak.
