Last weekend, the students of the seventh cycle of the tourism career (pilot course 2) involved in the research-based learning process, developed by the University of Cuenca and KU Leuven with the support of the VLIR-UOS Program, applied various qualitative data collection techniques to the weavers of the toquilla straw hat associated with the Economuseo Municipal Casa del Sombrero.
The students took advantage of an event organized by the Casa de la Cultura and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage to have contact with the weavers. Previously the activities were coordinated with the Director of the Economuseo.
They applied different techniques such as observation, interviews and participatory methodologies. The results will be used in their final assignments. Also present were students who are working on their graduation thesis with a focus on tourism and toquilla straw handicrafts.
