We celebrated the tourism day in the city of Azogues.

This year, World Tourism Day centered on the important theme of "Tourism and Peace," highlighting the fundamental role tourism plays in promoting intercultural understanding, mutual respect, and peacebuilding across the globe. Tourism is more than just an economic activity; it's a powerful tool that connects people, breaks down barriers, and fosters peaceful coexistence between different cultures and nations.

In this context, the PREIT-tour research group had the honor of being part of this celebration in the city of Azogues. Our researcher, Freddy Espinoza, was invited to give a keynote lecture titled: "Tourism Education: Are We Prepared for the Future or Trapped in the Past?" During his talk, Freddy Espinoza offered deep insights into the need to update and adapt the curricula of hospitality-related programs in Latin America, ensuring they effectively respond to the needs of the territory.

Key topics discussed included the importance of teaching practice and vocation, the formation of communities of practice, pedagogical innovation, and the reflection on technological training, as well as the development of thinkers capable of facing new challenges in the tourism sector. Additionally, several ongoing projects by the PREIT-tour research group, developed in collaboration with students, faculty, authorities, and other stakeholders, were presented, showcasing the commitment and innovation the group brings to the fields of education and tourism.

At the end of the lecture, we received a special recognition from the GAD of Azogues, which fills us with pride and motivates us to continue working to promote tourism as a driving force for peace and sustainable development. This celebration reinforces our commitment to building a better future through tourism and education!
